Q: Are these plates capable of going into the oven? If so, up to what temperature?

You have to get stainless steel like this up to 2500 Fahrenheit to melt it. So yes, perfectly fine in the oven. Great for warming up food or making individual pizzas :-) Do note that of course they will get very very hot so you will need a good hot pad. Becky for Darware

Dear Customer, I have calipers, but with those all I can measure is the very edge as can't get at the plate itself. The edge is 1.5 mm. Becky for Darware

Q: What's the width of the flat area on the bottom of the plate, not the outside edge?

It looks like the interior diameter comes out to 7 & 3/8 inch or 7 & 7/16 inch. I wasn't hundred percent sure when I was in the exact middle. I used a measuring tape to get in there. Our calipers won't stretch that wide :-( Becky for Darware
