Sock Formulas
I'm not a pattern knitter. Unless it's lace. Modifying lace just isn't worth the headaches involved. So chuck out the patterns in here, because I just don't care.BUT SOCKS I'll modify all day long. This book has a series of worksheets and formulas in the first half, and to me this is by far the most valuable portion of the book. 3-4 ways of doing a toe, 3 ways of doing a heel, and several methods for the cuff. Mix and match to your heart's content and you'll have socks YOUR way.Not for the beginning knitter. Short row shaping, slipped stitches for a hybrid heel, and more advance cast-ons and bind-offs can be found in here. If you are a beginning knitter, be prepared to spend some quality time on youtube or with a fellow knitter who's done a thing or two. Some of the patterns are pretty in here, mind you, but I'll never make a one of them. I just bought this for the worksheets. No other sock-book I know for toe-up has quite this much valuable information in the way of worksheets and formulas.

Bigfoot's Friend
Awesome!! Heel Math!! The hybrid heel is just fabulous, especially for a high arch, and beautiful as well. This book, unlike almost all others of many I bought, gives you the math for when to start the heel, as opposed to "start two inches before," which is great if you're not Amazonian. I gots me some big foots. Any yarn, any needle, any foot; fab-u-lous math makes it work. And the worksheets make for easy calculations. The round toe, hybrid heel and yarn-over bind off is a win-win-win combo, and my socks **FIT** very well indeed. On the needles now: alpaca-silk (wool allergic) bed socks for cold nights. So looking forward to that!Love!! Heel Math!! Thank you Chrissy Gardner!!!

Best reference for socks knitted toe-up
Amazing sock knitting book. I bought this copy for a friend, that's how much I value it. This is the book that sits next to my "knitting chair" for easy reference: Judy's Magic Cast-on for toe-up socks, the best stretchy cast-off for cuffs, basic sock patterns for all the family. She lists several alternate toe and heel patterns and it's been fun to try them all. Also some more complicated and beautiful sock patterns. I also was lucky enough to take a face-to-face class from Chrissy which was great! This is now my preferred way to knit socks: from the toe up with a hybrid heel (heel pattern in book).

good resource for toe-up socks
I learned to do toe-up socks from this book, and it's a favorite resource. I found it clear, and the worksheets very flexible in figuring out sizing. There are selections of types of toes and heels, so you could put together your own kind of socks. Good tips. One complaint - many of the pictures look like they were taken by someone who has no clue about using depth-of-field in photography, and are blurry - it's hard to really see some of the stitch patterns and socks. They don't look arty-blurry, they look inept blurry, and I wish the some of the photos were better. Some are just fine.

Wonderful resource
I've found this book to be a treasure of ideas and ways to knit socks to fit individuals whose feet are a little "different" Just finished a pair for my son and they are perfect for him! Instructions are very clear, but you do have to do a little math on your own---no big deal.
