Synopsis Paper manufacturers supply little information about the preformance characteristics of the watercolour supports they sell. Consequently the artist is forced to select paper on a trial and error basis. This book attempts to fufil this deficit by providing a useful guide to the selection of common paper, and is designed to act as a reference manual to watercolour painters. In an easy-to-follow guidebook format, it describes the physical handling characteristics of the different types of paper available. Each paper is analysed for seizing, surface texture, weight, colour range, price range, availability, absorbency, reworkability and durability. Paper descriptions are followed by demonstrations and cross-comparisons of different paper types. Close-up photography reveals the behaviour of selected papers.
