Excellent
Great product, my daily espresso tamper.

Wood
Pretty good tamper. Wood is pretty good and pressure is good to apply too.

Not gimmicky; just a great fit for my hand!
This is a no-frills classic tamper that exudes elegance from its walnut body to its flat tamping base. And, it fits hands PERFECTLY! (At least, it fits MINE!)Your hand will curl over the top of the nicely rounded handle, as your fingers slide into the curves of the wood –– to end up with your fingertips helping to press the face of the tamper gently into your portafilter, in order to form the most consistent and perfectly formed puck for your next espresso!I can now see why many baristas still prefer to use a CLASSIC style of tamper, rather than ones with heavy steel bodies, gimmicky springs inside, etc.Fortunately, MHW-3BOMBER also gives you the choice of having this retro-style of tamper come with a FLAT bottom, OR, a RIPPLED bottom.A rippled bottom has a face of ridged, concentric circles. Use this design if you feel the need to upgrade your barista tools, but don't want to go too far astray! Just be aware that the ridges usually leave more coffee grinds stuck to its bottom, than when using a tamper with a completely flat face.Either way, this is one model of tamper that fits the average hand, and feels great to use in making your espressos.

It's wood veneer instad of wood
It's wood veneer instad of wood. The bottom is also sharp, that it probably should not be,

Lightweight. Didn't feel comofortable in my hand when using.
I make 2-6 espressos almost every day and enjoy the routine. I enjoy using a solid steel Rocket tamper with a convex bottom, but I wanted to try this MHW tamper for its flat bottom.I just didn't like the light weight or shape of this MHW tamper- it has a very thin aluminum disk that screws into a light wood handle. The lightness made it feel closer to a plastic tamper than a metal tamper.I also didn't like the convex curvature of the bottom of the handle- it does not give a good surface to push with your fingertips to get a strong, level tamp- it makes your fingertips want to slide toward the edges when trying to push straight down.I do not enjoy using this tamper, but for someone that likes the looks of it and tamps lightly, it might work OK.To say something positive about it, it looks nice and fits the basket well. It can give a good tamp, but it seems like it was designed more for style than functionality.

Easy to use
Easy to use espresso tamper. Can be tough to keep puck level, but after a few tries it works great.
