Sturdy and User-Friendly Notebook Lock; Highly Recommend
Please note that this review is for: "Targus PA410U DEFCON CL Notebook Computer Cable Lock." It is a four-digit combination cable lock and does not use a key or have an alarm (as some of the other reviews seem to suggest).Great Aspects:This Targus Notebook Lock does its job well and is relatively small and light. There are 10,000 possible combinations and an "anchor plate" is included to create a "secure object" if you are usually using your computer in an area without such stable objects. The 6' cable itself is pretty strong and would take quite some time to cut. The lock can swivel/pivot when locked into a notebook, making it easier to move the notebook and keeping the cable from getting entangled with itself or other things. Re-setting the combination is simple and the lock is very easy to install.Downside:Obviously, really determined thieves are going to be able to work thier way around the lock, either by destroying the computer's casing on the side the lock is attached (particularly for plastic-sided notebooks), guessing the combination, destroying the secure object, or cutting through the cable. Provided, most of these actions will take some time (and probably make considerable noise) but the lock is a deterent to theft, not an invincible bastion of security. Use a little common sense with your laptop and don't feel that the lock will save your computer from everything. The price of this lock isn't particularly cheap but it's probably worth the price.Summary:This notebook lock should satisfy the security needs of almost all notebook users. The price isn't excellent but, then again, it's also a very good lock and most people probably wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks for a lock that will actually work well. This is about as good as it gets for general notebook locks.Highly Recommend.

Best buy, best choice for theft deterant
A simple, functional anti-theft product.A long cable- allows you to thread through the handle of your laptop case/bag as well as other similar items: Breifcase; Backpack; Slingbag; Peripheral accessories; etc.

Great product for work laptops
I bought 25 of these for my work so we can lock down our laptops while at the client site. The product is good, minus the fact you can only set the lock code once. I already had a coworker forget his code after 1 day, so we had to scrap that lock.

Works as described. Make sure you have the right connection
Kinda heavy & not easily wrapped for carrying around. But perhaps that is part of the deterrent

Very Secure
Easy to install and use. Feel much better now that my computer is secured to my desk at the office.

Effective and secure, but not very portable
I was looking for a laptop lock that I could throw into my laptop bag and take with me wherever I need to secure my MacBook Pro (e.g. coffee shops). This more than does the job--I certainly don't worry about theft when it's in place--but it's longer, heavier and more awkward than necessary for my purposes.I would recommend this laptop lock for stationary uses (securing a laptop to a desk, for instance), but not to someone looking for security on the go.

A better mousetrap
This does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is light, easy to pack, easy to use, and probably difficult to crack.(Though would-be PC pilferers haven't tried taking a hacksaw to my cable lock so I cannot comment as to its ability to withstand saws, blow-torches, or any other criminal's tool.)Other reviewers baffled me as mine is as described by Amazon. There is neither an alarm nor batteries. Why bother with an alarm if the PC is locked with steel cable? Seems like overkill?

Buy it, good lock
What you see is what you get. This lock fits all standard lock receivers on monitors, desktops, thin clients, televisions, printers, etc. The thickness of the cable is perfect for sending the casual theif along their way though small bolt cutters will not be held back. It comes with a variety of trim colors which is great for keeping the combinations straight. Highly recommended for anyone needing a simple lock.

Lock jammed after first use
Received the lock, the second time I tried to lock it, the key jammed halfway through the turn and is now stuck, rendering the lock useless.

Perfecto.
Muchas gracias. Un producto aconsejable.

Seems solid enoug, but only as good as the laptop and anchor point
I would have preferred a key lock rather than combination (combinations can often be easy to open) but this one seems to have been made with tight enough tolerances to make the simple act of reading the tumblers difficult. Only 4 tumblers - so not super safe. Then again, the point of these isn't to make your laptop unstealable; just more awkward than others and be enough to slow a thief down. The cable feels strong (not done a cut test) and so long as you make sure there isn't too much slack, I can see it doing it's job.Security is in depth though, so this is no replacement for proper tags, tracking (software or hardware) and insurance.
