Derwent Compressed Charcoal Blocks, Pack, 6 Count (35996)

Leaving this review on behalf of my fiance. I got these for her for Christmas, because she makes amazing charcoal drawings, mostly portraits. She asked for charcoal sticks without going into detail. I chose these because they offer a range of hardness, from light to dark. I always do a LOT of research before I purchase anything, so I was confident that these would be the ticket.It used to take her a long time to shade in a large dark area. She says that these charcoal blocks make it an absolute breeze. She couldn't be happier with them. So, if you're a charcoal artist who has only used pencils and vines, or if you have a lovely charcoal artist in your life, you can't go wrong with these.

Not sure why there were no medium tint charcoal blocks as advertised. There were 4 light tint and 2 dark tint ones inside the blister pack.

Says charcoal on the package but it's nothing more than a gray rock shaped like a stick. It's not even close to black. Seriously, if you are thinking of doing some serious charcoal artwork don't bother.

Great product from Derwent with a nice, subtle range of tones. Couple of stars off as a few of the sticks were cracked on arrival and they're not particularly long to start with. Personal choice, but I much prefer these compressed sticks to willow charcoal or the pencils since there's less grittiness and drag.

Excited to receive the charcoal. Disappointed to find 3 of the 6 charcoal blocks were broken when they arrived. It`s important to have a good length of charcoal when you are drawing a portrait. Otherwise the charcoal was ok. Arrived quickly.

A very nice dry charcoal stick. Ideal for portrait art. Recommended
