exactly what they say it is, and exactly what anyone, a beginner, or an expert, needs to carve wood
Exactly what was advertised, and it even smells good lol. My great grandfather Charles worked with wood, Rembrant quality artisanship, could make things worthy of the White House. My father, a great man, was invited to the White House for a dinner in his honor, and he works with wood still. He made my dining room table and chairs, and I seek to be my blood. I will take this purchase, and I will make my trinkets, gnomes, mushroom gardens, elves and fairies, things of beauty and soul and spirit! But with a few YT instructional videos, this quality product can be taken and turnt into anything. If you buy the right sized piece of wood, and have the time, and the patience, and the skill. I am still learning. Let's learn together!

All basswood???
The 2 x 4 inch block is not a softwood!! ; the 1 inch sticks are fine.

Not bad for beginners
It's not too bad for beginners in wood carving, for this price it's perfect.

Not the best quality basswood. It’s too soft.
The woods is too soft to get a quality carve out of it. It’s almost like balsam wood.
