Bird's Basic Engineering Mathematics
H**.
Covers a lot with clear explanations and abundant exercises
I bought this book to refresh some of my knowledge of math fundamentals. It covers a lot of ground, all the way from basic arithmetic to an introduction to calculus. As such it would be a good fit for someone who has left school and maybe stopped maths early but who wants to advance their maths knowledge. While it has an engineering focus, anyone wanting to learn more maths could benefit. The philosophy of this book is "learn by doing". Normally a technique or principle is briefly introduced without too much theory and some worked examples show. Then it gives you questions to practise. There are tonnes of questions in here (I definitely didn't do them all). For some of the topics I was more comfortable with I just did the multiple choice review at the end of the chapter after skimming some content. Offering multiple choice is a nice alternative to the other question formats.I really liked how Bird put the worked examples to the questions on the website, that is a great benefit for students.
