John Constantine Paperback – 21 January 2020

I've been buying the Hellblazer trade paperbacks since they came out. I love the different takes of the various authors and seeing what kind of no-good Constantine can get up to. Definitely a must read for any fan of horror comics.

Constantine at his best!!! Great story’s with very good art. Highly recommended!!!

Great comic

This book has great artwork and good pacing.Unfortunately there’s only secondary stories that didn’t get you anywhere really; and the main one isn’t even resolved in this one.It’s clear that the publisher knew that the main story was a little short a thus they put filler ones in it, but it got out of hand in my opinion.I’ll say buy this one only if it’s on sale.

Volume 22 is the start of the home stretch of the original Hellblazer run. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, I don't think writer Peter Milligan is going to send the series out on a high note.First, lets start with the good parts. Milligan's run is sandwiched between two specials. The first is a series of short Christmas themed stories by various writers. Most of these were pretty entertaining short stories, especially the one's by Jamie Delano and China Mieville. And at the end of the volume, there's a five part special focusing on Chas Chandler, Constantine's only steady friend. The arc is a great exploration of an older character going through a small mid-life crisis, and is easily the best part of the book.But now, to dive into Milligan's run, which I didn't really like at all. The run starts with Scab, an overtly political screed against the conservative and new Labour parties in the UK. Past Hellblazer runs have always been poltical, but they've always been vague on details. This story named politicians explicitly, and the message comes off as overly preachy. After that was an anticlimatic story about the London Olympics. And then we get into the worst arc.See, Constantine gets a new girlfriend at the start of this series, but it turns rocky quick. To get back on her good side, Constantine buys a love potion. John Constantine might be a bastard, but he's never done anything that scummy before. And from there, all the characters in the book make a series of inexplicably bad decisions, to the point where I couldn't care about any of them.I intend to follow this story to the end, but I don't know how it's going to end up at this point.
