Coin Heist
Coin Heist has the feel of an ABC Family made-for-TV movie. It's cheesy, fun, and there's no way in heck it would ever happen in real life! It also has a bit of a Breakfast Club vibe, with teens from different groups coming together for a common purpose, and forging new friendships in the end. Alice is the brain. Jason is the class clown. Dakota is student body vice president. Benny is the scholarship kid. But they all have one thing in common: they need money. More specifically, they need money for their school since Jason's dad--who is the headmaster--gambled away $50 million of the school's funds. Oops.It all starts with a trip to the US Mint. Alice immediately realized that their computer system isn't very secure, which gets the attention of Jason. He's become a social pariah since the news of his father broke, and he feels like he should fix it. Then Benny overhears Alice and Jason, and wants in on it, because no money, means no scholarship for him. Finally, Dakota wants to lend her skill set, since she wants all of the school's clubs and after school activities back in place for her college applications. They all have everything to gain, and everything to lose, but they're in it to win it!Of course, there's no way I could believe four high school juniors could ever successfully rob the US Mint. But Coin Heist made me think it was possible for 300 pages! They planned, and planned, and planned some more. They have back up plans for their back up plans. But everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. Details were overlooked for the overarching plot, but that was okay. I was just having so much fun seeing if they could pull it off!Coin Heist was just a really quick, fun, feel good read. It's one of those books that just lets you turn your mind off and enjoy the ride. I think the outcome is fairly obvious, but that didn't stop my enjoyment of how they got there.

Creative and Imaginative Story!
This was a very imaginative story. The plot itself with the entire coin heist is highly unlikely to happen in real life but you never know. ;) It has a little something for everyone - action/adventure, a hint of romance and family relationships. It was a little slow to begin with but once the stage was set I was hooked and I am not kidding you I woke up in the middle of the night just to read a few more chapters. It is told from 4 different points of view which was nice but even with the characters names at the beginning of each chapter could get a bit confusing. Overall, a good read that I do recommend.Rating: PG to light PG-13 (some talk of drugs, sex and a bit of profanity nothing graphic though)Medium Re-ReadabilityIf you like this I recommend I Have a Bad Feeling About This .

I found it was not only great for them
Coin Heist is a book I picked up to checkout for my teenage son and daughter. Reading through it, I found it was not only great for them, but thoroughly enjoyable for me. The characters were right out of my kids classrooms. The author portrayed their language and their emotions to perfection. The story was riveting. The book dealt with many significant issues on the minds of my kids and their friends. I particularly appreciated the theme that four different teenagers from walks of lives could bond for a common purpose. I give the book five stars for teenagers and moms like me.

Fun, light, Teen heist read - perfect for summer...
To begin I must confess: I love heist themes. Heist movies? Love them! Bring on the Ocean's, Italian Job, Inside Man type movies and keep 'em coming! Heist books? Love, love, love! (My absolute favorite being the YA Heist society series by Ally Carter). In my opinion, we need more YA/Teen Heist books because there are just not enough out there - so needless to say, I was a teeny-tiny bit excited for this and one I got the chance to read the E-Arc a happy dance may or may not have occurred! So, as you can probably gather from the picture and blurb, Coin Heist is about an unlikely group of teens who join forces to plan a heist on the US Mint in order to save their school. To me it was really Heist Society (or for movie reference Ocean's) meets Breakfast Club. So fans of awesome 80's films unlikely groups/teams working together - type stories, heist themes, and/or fun, adventure YA books - this book is probably looking for you!Highlights:* The heist! - I loved reading about the teens getting together, plotting, planning, strategizing and coordinating a heist.*The Plot - Can't say much more for fear of spoilers but: it was fun, it was amusing, and it was engaging!*The characters - I really enjoyed getting to know each character, I liked learning about their personalities and motivations. I also liked that the book did this by changing POVs. This, of course, is always interesting for looking at and learning about other characters as well - I like getting an interpretation of the main characters not just from their own perspective but from others as well.Wishes:* Character POVs - Although I really did enjoy the fact that the story was told from multiple perspectives, one wish would have been for slightly more differentiation between the different character voices. At times I would lose track of who was narrating, although I could pick it up again easy enough as I went along and saw the conversations, etc.* The ending didn't complete do it for me - I was a bit let down by the ending, I wished it happened a bit differently. I guess it was a more realistic (in some ways) idea of how it all plays out but I was hoping for a different resolution. I don't want to spoil the book so I can't really be specific here, but suffice it to say that I was left wanting for a bit more closure.Overall, it was a fun, quick, and light read - perfect for what I'm generally looking for in my summer reads. I enjoyed the heist aspect and the overall idea of the story, I also found the characters to be interesting.Rating3.5 out of 5 Doxies - Light, fun and definitely worth a read!RecommendationsHeist Society by Ally CarterAlso Known As by Robin Benway

It was ehh
The 4 differing points of view was a little over the top for me and I found some of the characters annoying. This was an interesting story line but it felt like it took forever to get there.

High school drama +...
More turns than alpine race... with more than a little high school drama to boot. Ludwig is a fresh voice in the suspense genre. Can not wait to see what her next story brings... a drama-mama in the best sense!

Cute
Kind of a Breakfast Club meets Apple Dumpling Gang meets Oceans Eleven. A fun read with a happy, if somewhat implausible, ending.

An okay read
Read the full review at:[...]This book has me really conflicted because there are lots of things I like about this book and a lot of things I'm not really sure about. For starters, I really liked how the perspectives switch and change from one character to another as you get a really clear idea of the character's personality and reason as to why they agreed to do this heist. Plus you feel how the school scandal affected each of the characters. You also got a look into all their secrets that they try to hide and it makes you sympathise and connect with them even more. But then I didn't really like how it took a long time to get into the main story. I understand why you needed a backstory as a reader to understand the events that will take place but I just felt that it was a little too dragged out for my liking. When the heist actually started the books pace started to get faster, which I liked because it started to grip you and make you want to read on to find out if they would actually pull it off and how they would do it.Overall, I liked this book. I didn't love it, but I liked it. The characters were good but a little self centered and petty at times. I liked the plot but not the pace of the story. And I liked how the book was written in different perspectives, so you got to see all the characters not just one. I would recommend it to Young Adult readers because it does have an interesting plot and storyline and a good writing style. So if you looking for something that's quite quick to read and not too mind consuming this book would be good for you.
