My 8 year old son is a great reader who doesn’t enjoy reading. Last week I remembered that my brother was like that as a kid; he and I discovered the Choose Your Own Adventure books as kids and were hooked. I was so happy to see that my son reads them every night and loves changing the story based on his choices.

My son lives the choose your own adventure books. These are not amazing literature, but the stories are entertaining and getting TY pick what happens is fun. He read through them very quickly.

Some of my 7-year-olds favorite books. All Ninja, age appropriate. Stories often dont end satisfactorily - eg character survives but it doesn’t feel like a win.

My nine year old son read the first book in the space of an evening, so moved onto another (The Tattoo of Death). He then asked me ‘Mummy, what’s a spazz?’ (see photo). Honestly, this book was first published in 1995, it wasn’t an acceptable term then and it definitely isn’t now!
